Scope and Contents
The papers in this collection constitute a wide range of subjects, from Janeway’s work at Children’s Hospital, to his professional and personal travels, to family and friends.
All papers were compiled by Robert J. Haggerty and Frederick H. Lovejoy, Jr. as part of the research for their 2007 biography of Charles A. Janeway titled: Charles A. Janeway, Pediatrician to the World's Children.

Biographical Note
Charles A. Janeway was Physician-in-Chief at Children’s Hospital from 1946-1976, and was Thomas Morgan Rotch Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. Janeway was born in 1909 in New York City, attended Yale University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He married Elizabeth Bradley, a social worker, in 1932. They had four children: Anne, Elizabeth, Charles, and Barbara. He died in Weston, Massachusetts, in 1981.

Acquisition
The papers in this collection were collected and donated by Drs. Robert J. Haggerty, MD and Frederick H. Lovejoy, Jr., MD in 2006, to the Hospital Archives. The collection was created during research conducted for a biography of Charles A. Janeway published in 2007.
Processing Information
The collection was processed as part of two internship projects in 2006 and 2007 by students from the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College of Boston Massachusetts. Papers and photographs were processed as separate projects. The collection was revisited in 2015 by Rebecca M. Fullerton, Archivist. Some of the materials were re-ordered to bring like materials together and to give greater separation of the primary source materials and materials used in the creation of the Janeway biography by Haggerty and Lovejoy.
