APTA “Out of the Past” [photographs, captions and correspondence], 1966
Scope and Contents
The professional affiliations series includes materials from organizations such as the American Women’s Physical Therapy Association (AWPTA), the American Physiotherapy Association (APA), later renamed the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and branches of the ¬¬APTA such as the Organization of Vocational Rehabilitation (APTA-OVR) and the Vocational Rehabilitation Administration (APTA-VRA) as well as records from the American Registry of Physical Therapists (ARPT). The AWPTA records include only one publication, the P.T. Review from 1921. The APA, APTA, APTA-OVR and APTA-VRA records include annual conference programs, newsletters, by-laws, publications, bulletins, reports, bibliographies, standards as well as informational pamphlets on recruitment and retirement. The ARPT records include correspondence, memoranda, reports and evaluation forms. The Council of the Physical Therapy School Directors (CPTSD) records include registration forms, meeting minutes, correspondence, a typewritten history of the organization, biographical sketches, surveys, notes and agendas. Notes and correspondence from second and third directors of Children’s Physical Therapy Department, Janet Merrill and Shirley Cogland respectively, are of great interest, as well as the formation and installation of the CPTSD in which Cogland assumed an important role.
